JOHN MOROGIELLO is a Playwright in Residence at the Maryland State Arts Council and a member of the Dramatists Guild.  His plays have been seen in New York at Abingdon Theatre Company and, regionally, at the Kennedy Center, Old Globe Theatre, Actors Theatre of Louisville, Colony Theatre, New Jersey Rep, Mountain Playhouse, Oldcastle Theatre Company, and other theaters in New York, North America, and Europe.  He is a regular contributor to Flagpole Radio Cafe and Washington Independent Review of Books.  John wrote the screenplay for Marty Mericka’s film, Happy Hour, ("Best Short Comedy," 2003 New York Independent Film and Video Festival) and co-authored the screenplay of the short, Forenziks.  John wrote and directed the J.T. Burian Theatricals film, The Matchmaker’s Guide to Controlling the Elements.  In 1996, John was named "Best Up and Coming Playwright" by Baltimore magazine and received a Kennedy Center Fellowship of the Americas.  His articles have been published in American Theatre, Dramatics, and in study guides for Long Wharf Theatre, Huntington Theatre Company, and Everyman Theatre.

The Latest:

•My new one, Civilizing Lusby, will be read by Abingdon Theatre Company (312 West 36th Street, New York, NY) on Monday, March 18, 2013 at 7:00 p.m.  Jackob G. Hofmann directs.  The reading is free, but seating is limited.  Hope to see you there!


•Also, thanks to the Dramatists Guild and Spotlighters Theater for hosting the Baltimore reading of Civilizing Lusby!  It was a great success.


Engaging Shaw will be published by Samuel French later this year.  It is currently available from them in manuscript form, for those who can’t wait.
